Travel to Quang Nam | A-Z guide for first-timers

Did you know that traveling to Quang Nam is a lot more affordable than other cities in VietNam like Da Nang, HCMC, or Ha Noi?

Even though the cost is lower, Quang Nam’s tourism still brings unique, interesting experiences to visitors.

So, if you’re planning to visit Quang Nam, this article is your one true guide.

Let’s get started!

When Should You Travel To Quang Nam?

Here is the breakdown of which time of the year is perfect for visiting Quang Nam:

  • March to June: ideal for traveling. It’s sunny all day, and there is almost no rain in this period.
  • July to Sep: less ideal, but still good enough. Expect heavy rainfall in the afternoon and late night.
  • Oct to Nov: not suitable for traveling. It’s always rainy, and there may be dangerous tropical storms.
  • Jan to Feb: not ideal due to chilly weather. Besides, during this time, the biggest holiday of Vietnam, the Lunar new year, is held (usually for one week.) Almost all services in Viet Nam will be closed.

Where To Visit In Quang Nam?

Now, you already have the answer for “when”. How about “Where”?

For that question, we have conducted the top 5 must-come places in Quang Nam.

Let’s see what they are!

Hoi An Ancient Town

Located just 17 miles (28 km) from Da Nang International Airport, Hoi An Ancient town is definitely your first destination when traveling to Quang Nam.

In addition to the ancient town with architecture from Chinese, French, or even Japanese, Hoi An is also very famous for clothing and shoes. There are literally hundreds of tailor shops in this town.

Hoi An is truly the representative of Quang Nam. This is a place where you can learn about the people’s culture, have a taste of the delicious Quang Nam traditional food, or even one step further – learn how to cook the food yourself.

Cham Islands

If you have already visited Hoi An, do NOT skip Cham Islands or Cu Lao Cham. It’s only 15 minutes away!

This is an island cluster containing one big island and eight surrounding small islands – the true heaven for thalassophiles. You can enjoy all kinds of beach activities such as swimming, sunbathing, diving, etc.

Here are some basic fees you need to pay when visiting Cham Islands.

  • Entrance fee: 70,000 VND/person (3 USD)
  • Ecological fee: 20,000 VND/person (.85 USD)
  • High-speed canoe ticket: 400,000 VND/person/round-trip (17 USD)
  • Total: 490,000 VND/person (20.85 USD)

My Son Sanctuary

Discovered in 1885, My Son Sanctuary is another attraction if you want to discover Quang Nam’s culture and heritage.

This is the remainder of the Champa Kingdom’s capital (from the 4th to the 13th centuries CE.) The sanctuary contains eight groups of 71 ancient towers, which were mainly used to worship the gods and bury the kings.

Grang Waterfall

Grang waterfall lies deep into the forest in the west of Quang Nam. The destination is two hours of driving from Da Nang airport. And you will not regret those two hours.

It’s not just about Grang itself, it’s the path to get to it. Leaving the city, with the fresh air kissing your face, you’re going to admire the magnificent mountain view.

  • Address: Nam Giang, Quang Nam
  • Entrance fee: free
  • Tips: as the temperature at the waterfall is significantly cooler than the outside environment, you want to visit this place on a hot day.

Cong Troi Dong Giang

Just opened in April 2022, Cong Troi Dong Giang (Dong Giang Heaven Gate) has become one of the most famous attractions in Quang Nam.

If you are a fan of ecotourism, this place is for you! Cong Troi Dong Giang brings you an experience of majestic natural caves, streams, and waterfalls.

What To Eat?

It’s a waste if you travel to Quang Nam, but you don’t try Quang Nam’s traditional food!

Here are three must-try dishes we recommend:

My Quang Phu Chiem

“My Quang” is a traditional noodle of Quang Nam that you can hardly find in any other parts of Viet Nam.

Because of the complexity of making this food, there are many variations of ““My Quang”. Among them, My Quang Phu Chiem is the most well-known for its unique taste.

Here is the best place to try it:

Banh Trang Thit Heo

Banh trang thit heo is basically rolled rice paper with boiled pork and vegetables.

It may sound simple, but the secret is in how the pork is boiled, and especially the sauce. Many people can’t stand its smell. But once you get used to that, you’ll be in love!

Here is the best place you can try it in Quang Nam:

Be Thui Cau Mong

“Be thui” means smoked calf, and Be thui Cau Mong has been a famous brand for more than 50 years.

If you don’t mind eating medium-rare meat, this dish will open a whole new world to your perception of steak.

Here is the best place to try this dish:

Conclusion

And that should be everything you need to know when traveling to Quang Nam. Hopefully, this article will help you to have a wonderful future trip to Quang Nam with your friends and family.
